Additional Information
A trip to the ballet often means seeing classic shows like The Nutcracker, Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty featuring plenty of tutus, fairy princesses and always a love story. However, Dominic Walsh Dance Theater, now in its tenth season, is not your grandmother's dance company. Featuring a cadre of ten dance masters directed by longtime Houston Ballet principal and 2008 Princess Grace Award winner for choreography Dominic Walsh, this contemporary dance company pushes the boundaries of dance with technical precisions and unabashed sensuality. Experience this innovative company with today's deal of an admission ticket to Dominic Walsh Dance Theater's Fall Mixed Rep, a $40 value, for just $10.
Winner of the 2011 Houston Press Best of Houston Award for Best Dance Company, Dominic Walsh Dance Theater is truly ballet for the twenty-first century and its dazzling Fall Mixed Rep is no exception. The mixed bill is like a timeline of Walsh's rise to becoming a leading choreographer with a revival of his Katharsis, which appeared in the company's inaugural performance. Also on the bill is the Houston premiere of The Whistling, a piece created for Ballet Austin's 2010 New American Talent Choreographic Competition that is set to popular Cuban music of the 1940s and 1950s as well as the world premiere of Ancora la set to music from the film about the great castrato singer Farinelli. Next on the program is the U.S. premieres of "Ho messo via" from Certe Notti and a duet from Come Un Respiro by Italian choreographer Mauro Bigonzetti. Finally, Houston favorite, Lauren Anderson, will return to the stage with a cameo performance performing Walsh's dramatic The Dying Swan solo.
